IoT: Making Smart Energy Saving Systems

QCerris offers exceptional IoT software engineering solutions, combining the best performance with optimal data security features. We managed to develop a smart lighting app efficiently, following agile methodology, as well as using clean code so no additional resources in the future are being wasted. The app contributes to reducing personal electricity use and making our planet, just a little bit greener

IoT Saving the Day

Client

Our clients came to the meeting determined to make IoT energy-saving software a reality. They told us their initial plan, and they wanted us to help them find an optimal solution, so their product can be easily managed, maintained, and updated as needed. We were glad to start the cooperation with this innovative company from Nashville and to do our bit in achieving energy sustainability.

Challenge

‍App functionality, data security, and privacy were top priorities. The company focused on these values, and we had several discussions over different ideas, and how to achieve them. We wanted to make sure that future users would enjoy the app, without worrying about their data being stolen: no data privacy and data security pitfalls were allowed. Furthermore, our clients highlighted the green value of the project, as its application would have an important impact on the decrease of electrical power usage in homes. We were excited to jump on board and make this vision a reality.‍

Our Solution

What we had in mind was a smart lighting app, that uses IoT-enabled sensors on bulbs, to allow users to manage their home or office lighting with their smartphones. Users can then set it to operate on a schedule, so they never have to worry if they forgot to turn off the light before going to the office. We thoroughly discussed all the features with our clients, making sure we strive towards the exact same vision of the product. Our senior engineers consulted the client's team on the best options we have to achieve this goal. Following the Agile methodology, the whole process was flexible, as well as fully transparent, where every employee knew their project responsibilities, and where we regularly meet to avoid any potential misunderstanding.

The first step was to choose the right programming language for the product, and we discussed different options to find the best fit. Then, having a basic sensor and actuator architecture, we transformed the raw, analog data into useful information. Data acquisition systems connected to sensor networks performed the analog-to-digital conversion. The significant results of the processed data were passed on to the cloud. Cloud data management is another area of our expertise, and our clients fully relied on our solution. After several project iterations, we were ready to present the final product to the client, meeting the deadline and meeting the set objectives.
